The US Open will take place this week a short distance away in Bethesda at Congressional Country Club. Most fans attending this great tournament will be arriving and leaving each day from a shuttle bus location in Gaithersburg, MD. Fans might not realize that a short drive away from the satellite parking lots is an internationally renowned, new urbanist community called Kentlands.
We hope that more than a few of the US Open fans find their way to the Kentlands Downtown. There are nearly 40 restaurants (all types of cuisine including unique finds such as Moroccan, Colombian French as well as American fare, wine cafes, and more) , live outdoor entertainment, a 10 screen movie theater, parks, unique walking paths and architecture and so much more. In fact, this Thursday, our Main Street Music Festival kicks off (http://www.themainstreetmusicfestival.com/default.aspx) our summer concert series with Tom Principato. The concert begins at 6:30 pm on our Main Street Pavillion lawn. Friday and Saturday join us at our old school diner and tiki bar for live entertainment in Market Square. Our own Main Street Cafe also offers up live music during the weekend and offers a wonderful brunch on Saturday and Sunday.
Kentlands Square which is on the right side of Kentlands Blvd. is primarily an open air shopping plaza with basic necessities as well as a few restaurants tucked away there. On the left side of Kentlands Blvd at the first circle is Market Square with the movie theater, diner, and more. The second circle is Main Street and the Pavilion that take you into the heart of the community with several ethnic and local owned restaurants, walking trials, Arts Barn, and more.
