Getting a good night sleep is important!

Is A Lack of Sleep Interfering With Your Life?

Most everyone tries their best to get a good amount of rest each night in order to be energized for the day and week ahead. Without enough sleep,  exhaustion during the day is the most immediate consequence. Besides being less productive and attentive, you run the risk of falling asleep while at work, or worse, while operating a vehicle! Consider the news of the air traffic controller at Reagan National Airport who literally fel...- we simply can’t take our sleep for granted!

The consequences from lack of sleep can be long term too. Individuals with regularly poor sleep patterns can often experience high blood pressure, and are at a higher risk for a heart attack or stroke. With all this in mind, getting enough sleep each night is a no-brainer, right?

But for those of us suffering from a sleep disorder like sleep apnea, its not always as easy as getting “enough” sleep. This is because sleep apnea causes frequent disruption to your body’s natural sleep patterns, and preventing you from getting the deep and restorative sleep that you need.

The good news is that sleep apnea is treatable! We’ve covered the topic of sleep disorders, and more specifically, sleep apnea, in previous blog articles, highlighting the most common treatment options. At Stiles Dentistry, we screen our patients for sleep disorders during their dental checkups, and can refer you to a sleep specialist if an issue is detected. While many treatments may be prescribed, your sleep specialist may prescribe a oral sleep appliance, which our team can custom-create for you. Dr. Dennis Stiles spends a significant amount of time every year in continuing education courses in treating sleep disorders using oral appliance therapy. Dr. Stiles even lectures on the topic  to dental school students at the University of Maryland Dental School.

You can learn more about sleep apnea on our website, or by giving us a call!
